The dry north for travellers who have already done the Mara. Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk and beisa oryx, along the Ewaso Nyiro river with almost no other vehicles.

Day by day
Day 1
Nairobi to Samburu
Depart early via Nanyuki and the Mount Kenya foothills, arriving for lunch. First drive along the river at 4pm.
Day 2
The special five
Full day in the reserve looking for the northern species you cannot see further south, with a bush breakfast on the riverbed.
Day 3
Buffalo Springs & culture
Morning in Buffalo Springs reserve, then an afternoon at a Samburu manyatta arranged directly with the community.
Day 4
Leopard evening
A slow morning, midday rest, then a long evening drive to the kopjes where the resident leopards hunt.
Day 5
Return south
Breakfast, a last river drive, then the road to Nairobi via Nanyuki for lunch. Arrival late afternoon.
